Gov Schwarzenegger: Sacramento is not Washington. We cannot print our own money

California’s governor Schwarzenegger said this before voters rejected more debt and taxes last week. This begs both of the questions, how can Washington print it’s own money and get away with it, and how does that effect everyone economically? Washington get’s away with it because Americans have been lulled into ignorance and complacence about the reality that their government is stealing large chunks of all their wealth every year by printing money. Each dollar that the government creates for itself out of thin air lowers the purchasing power of your dollars, because there are more of them. Money is suppose to arise only on the free market, like for example gold and silver mining. Mining companies can’t create gold out of thin air, they have to work for it by finding it, digging for it and processing it. That means mining companies exchange Work for the gold they dig up, which they then trade with and everyone else then uses as money, or at least that’s how it worked until the government started interfering after 1913. Check out these Books for more.

Governor Schwarzenegger is now promising deep cuts, to areas such as welfare health care for children and other programs. He and the California government put them at risk in the first place, by telling the lie that government welfare is an economically viable and reliable solution for children’s health care coverage. If they would have told the truth, the parents of those children and other responsible community members could have adjusted and reacted to the situation as it really existed. For example single mothers could have moved into together, shared child care duties and applied for group rate insurance. And/or the situation would have been clearer to the charities which already receive vast amounts from Americans each year. More likely, some other creative work solution to the issue would have been found, one which I couldn’t or anyone else couldn’t guess. That’s because what ‘capitalism’ is, what the ‘free market’ is, is individual people working to make the best of their unique situation, which no one else is in a position to guess about. Governments don’t produce wealth, they only destroy it by coercively and arbitrarily transferring wealth from producers to politicians and their interest group supporters.

However, libertarians will face a significant education and communication mission challenge over the next critical 2 years. Because the California state government and the national government has set up millions of people for economic problems by lying to them about reality, unless those people figure out and come to understand that it’s government lies that failed them and not the principle of human freedom, they will be guided by lies to blame the freedom of successful people on their own problems. Yes, their problems. Their fundamental problem is that they trusted the government when it promised them something for nothing. If they believe more government lies that it’s the freedom of other people that caused their problems and not their own mistakes or misfortune, they will be set up for yet more impoverishment and eventual full on slavery.

I would quickly add however, that it’s ultimately not the responsibility of libertarians to educate and free these people from the bondage of ignorance and lack of self responsibility. The only one who can ultimately provide that and be responsible for that is each individual for himself. So while we should do what we can to free people from mental bondage, and the bondage of supporting coercion against other people, our first duty is to ourselves, our families and our communities. So how do we secure our freedom to live and work and profit as we want? We do that by creating our own Freedom Communities. The ideal Freedom Community would be an entire county or state, in which there was no ‘public’ services or coercive fees of any type at all. A community that pursued such an agenda would be free from the parasites known as politicians, because there would be no booty to redistribute or patronage jobs to hand out or mercantilist deals to make. The current economic disaster is happening because of the long standing politicization of the products known as ‘money’ and ‘banking.’ Both of those products are completely under the control of politicians in the US, and thus were doomed to complete collapse because of the lack of free market accountability. More on that in another post.

The beauty of the approach of the Freedom Community, is that each community would be free to manage itself as it saw fit. Thus one county or municipality might be fully libertarian, another may take a different approach. As long as power is decentralized to the county or municipality level, and kept that way, political parasitism by outsiders, such as we have now, shouldn’t be a problem. The decentralization approach also allows a useful contribution to be made by Freedom Communities of any size, even informal networks of people who haven’t yet taken over a village, municipality or county. And of course that’s the point were starting from right now, with the 12 points. Hundreds of members of the Free State project in NH have already had an impact with this approach.

When the dollar collapses at some point over the next 1.5 years, economic and political situations will happen that few could even dream possible who haven’t read about the Wiemar Republic or the fall of the Roman empire. So this article may sound incredible to some now, but as events unfold those who are ahead of the curve will have tremendous opportunity to not only retain freedom and prosperity, but to thrive and profit like naturally community benefiting successful capitalists should.
