Jack Quinn for Senate? No.

Written by James Ostrowski on February 8, 2010 – 4:13 pm -

Joe Illuzzi reports: The State GOP is willing to spend up to a “million dollars” to coax Assemblyman Jack Quinn into the race. ###

Sorry guys. Jack Quinn will not receive the support of the tea party movement which will, I believe, field its own candidate.

These generals are always fighting the last war.

As an active tea partier (just got back from CPAC) I dont understand why we wouldnt support a Quinn candicacy for senate. He votes for smaller government and lower taxes more than anyone else in state government. why on earth would we support a random candidate who can’t win over someone who pretty much aligns with tea party principals who can win?

  2. LaurenNo Gravatar Says:

I agree, I don’t see any reason why the Tea Party Movement shouldn’t support Quinn. He is a Republican who has exhibited nothing but Republican tendencies in voting and he is not afraid to speak out on behalf of his constituents.

  3. James OstrowskiNo Gravatar Says:

The tea party movement is not an appendage of the Republican Party or even the conservative movement.

It’s about restoring the principles of the American Revolution, stated by Jefferson.

In all the time I have watched and heard Quinn, I have never heard a tiny hint of that sentiment.

The burden is on you to show why he should get the tea party movement endorsement.

Has he been to any of our events?

What has he done while our region has declined? I have not seen him at a single tax revolt event in six years.

BTW Mike, where has 50 years of running candidates “who can win” gotten us?

    BIG GOVERNMENT!

I have to agree with Lauren and Mike. Quinn is a great candidate for this seat. BTW James, if your so concerned about the Tea Party Movement not being “an appendage of the Republican Party or even the conservative movement,” I hope you will be consistent and demand Paladino not run on either of these lines. But you and I both know, if Paladino is to win and turn this state around, he likely needs at least one of those lines and preferably, both.

The Tea Party movement needs to pick and choose its battles carefully, this is not one it can win. Even if a Tea Party Candidate were to beat Jack in a primary, all that you would have ensured is a Sen. Kennedy or Stach for the next two years. Quinn is the only candidate who can win this seat with its 60,000 more Democrats than Republicans.

What we should go after is Quinn’s, soon to be former, assembly seat. That is a seat the Tea Party should pursue with vigor and could win.

Or you can be uncompromising and squander away the energy and resources of your movement, get publicity, but hand seats to the Democrats.

Jefferson had to swallow hard and ally with Burr. Yes, Burr almost stole the Presidency, but without his help Jefferson would have never even been in a position to have the presidency stolen from him on the floor of the house, as he would have lost the electoral college.

Lets win where we can, and pinch our nose and swallow where we must.

Nope. I don’t play that game. That game has failed for 45 years. No GOP government ever shrank government. The only hope the party has is if the tea party movement takes it over.

Interesting that you do not feel obliged to make any positive case for Quinn. I guess he’s entitled to the seat, right?

Your remarks about Paladino make no sense to me.

The tea party movement is not a party. We will use whatever party or parties make sense in a given district given how the major parties have rigged the system to stop us.

    We are not stupid.

    Quinn voted against
    foreclosure prevention act of 2008 A 10083-2008
Assault Weapon Definition Amendments A 2466-2006
    Farm Death Bill A 1867

Just a few illustrative examples of votes he has taken, I could add dozens more but if you want to look you could find them yourself. He has consistently stood up for the principles of liberty, free markets and the 2nd Amendment.

All you seem to be saying is that he isn’t entitled to it. I don’t think he is either and I doubt he does. I believe he has earned my support by being a quality Assemblyman who has voted much more conservatively than one would expect for someone in his district.

What are your positive arguments against Quinn?

  8. Jim OstrowskiNo Gravatar Says:

I have seen him speak and heard him speak and I am not impressed.

The Buffalo tax revolt started as a protest against the Bass Pro project. He has praised that project and apparently has ZERO problem with the government owning all that property for another 45 years.

It’s not up to me to make the case. It’s up to him.

  9. PericlesNo Gravatar Says:

Ok. I hope he is able to change your mind in the coming weeks and months.

  10. Jeffrey LongoNo Gravatar Says:

    Jim,

Your argument is petty and baseless in its logic. I’m not surprised.

Obviously the big picture importance of this seat, and the republicans regaining the NYS Senate eludes you. I’m not surprised.

The “tea party movement,” has a truly unique and crucial role in delivering a message to the status quo in this years election. People like Carl Paladino are exactly what this state and country needs. Opportunists and folks who are simply “angry you’re not at the cool kids table,” need to check their ego’s at the door.

I hope reason will prevail. In the mean time spend your limited resources sending your “jefferson” message to someone who is truely ruining the country. You don’t have to look far… Slaughter…

  11. James OstrowskiNo Gravatar Says:

Wow, you’re really making me want to change my mind.

How did the Republicans do the last time they controlled the Senate?

Why should I be desperate to re-enact that dreadful performance?

  12. RayNo Gravatar Says:

You’ve got to watch out for those Republican tendencies, that usually means economic Fascism is part of the bargain. Must have something to do with their Lincolnian Whig roots. Socialism is OK with them too, as long as they are doing the socializing. No wonder they never achieved their “small government” and ultimately gave us Obama and the commie gang.

  13. MikeNo Gravatar Says:

Quinn is part of the establishment and has been around for several years of further decline in New York. He should be thrown out with the rest of them.
